Details:
The theme for this playback is generally “Discover and analyze the process”. This playback occurs during a time when the plan and implement phase overlaps the discover and document phase. Traditionally, it is the only playback done during this phase. The other playbacks are done fully during the plan and implement phase. Activities include:

  • Discover the process
  • Author the as-is process
  • Analyze and improve the process
  • Author the to-be process
Roles involved are:
  • BPM analyst (1)
  • BPM developer (1, part-time)
  • BPM project manager (1)
  • BPM solution administrator (as needed)
  • Process owner and process participants (SMEs) (as needed)
Notice the BPM developer is minimally involved at this time.

Details: The theme for this playback is generally “Build the process”. Activities include:

  • Author the business process definition
  • Define the roles or participants
  • Define the business objects and variables
  • Configure the screens
  • Model rules across the screens and model
Roles involved are:
  • BPM analyst (1)
  • BPM developer (3)
  • BPM project manager (1)
  • BPM solution administrator (as needed)
  • Process owner and process participants (SMEs) (as needed)
The activity of the BPM analyst decreases at this point and more developers are added.

Details: The theme for this playback is generally “Connect into the infrastructure”. Activities include:

  • Configure data flow
  • Connect to other systems of record
  • SMTP
  • Data warehouse
  • Integrate LDAP or single-sign on (SSO)
  • EAI
Roles involved are:
  • BPM developer (3)
  • BPM project manager (1)
  • BPM solution administrator (as needed)
  • Process owner and process participants (SMEs) (as needed)
At this point, the BPM analyst is usually not on the project any longer. They might return later for improvement efforts, but that would typically be later in development.
One of the BPM developers is usually a technical consultant or has the skills of a technical consultant to assist with integrations. If you are completing a project using Advanced and Integration Designer, some Integration Designer developers would join the development team.
