Introduction

Local desktop virtualization

Desktop virtualization is more and more widely used in corporate environments.

Main benefits of that solution are:

- Quick application and/or operating system restoration

- Snapshots

- Backups

- Easy and safe testing

- Centralized image database for many desktops

- Thin client (terminal) instead of PC – money and energy saving

- Elastic and scalable

- Easy management

- Easy licensing process,

- Number of licenses reduction

There are of course some disadvantaged:

- Possible system and network overload during multiple desktop initialization

- Necessary investment in software and hardware

At home we can use local desktop virtualization. That approach will be helpful with many projects. To set up necessary software and configuration follow the tutorials 6.2-6.5.

For local virtualization we will use  hypervisor type 2.
