The operating model (governance) applied to a BPM project

The steps throughout the lifecycle of the BPM project are:

  • The business process governance lead (likely, the lead business architect and  member of the BPM CoE) schedules a business design review, following  Playback 0.
  • The process owner presents the design and vision for the process, its metrics,  and its value case to the BPM design and architecture team.
  • With approval from the governance lead, the process owner proceeds through Playback 1 and determines when the project is ready for the operational pilot.
  • During or at completion of Playback 2, the business process governance lead schedules a review of the services architecture.
  • The lead business architect and the process owner present their process designs and vision for the process and integrations, including metrics and value case, to the services architecture committee.
  •  With the approval of the committee, and the process owner satisfied that  enough development and integration is captured to make the business case, the process proceeds through Playback 3. The BPM solution team prepares  to deploy the integration-enabled process to production (“go live.”)
  • After deployment to production, the effectiveness and value of the process is  continuously  monitored and reported up to the BPM CoE.
