The Exposed Process Variables (EPVs) are a powerful concept designed to empower business users to change variables used in the process while process instances are running. The advantage of using EPVs is that they are global in nature, meaning that changing the value of an EPV impacts all processes or service that uses it.

Not every change can be anticipated and controlled through EPVs. In the end, adhering to BPM best practices as opposed to standard application development  ensures that the process itself is flexible and easily adaptable to a changing  business environment.
